The Messy Magical Muse Festival of Creativity will take place on October 12, 2024, from 14:00 to 18:00 at Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen (neighborhood workshops) in Amsterdam's Staatsliedenbuurt. Organized by Kissing the Muse Creative Adventures in collaboration with the Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen and friends, this free-to-enter event celebrates creative expression, artistic community, and the launch of The Messy Magical Muse card deck. Enjoy live workshop demonstrations, a pop-up art market and exhibition, and the chance to connect with local artists and makers, residents, and friends in Amsterdam's quirky Staatsliedenbuurt.
The event marks the official launch of The Messy Magical Muse card deck, created by Robbyn Layne, founder of Kissing the Muse Creative Adventures. Similar to tarot and oracle cards but with a twist, the deck is inspired by the cyclical, archetypal journey of change, which Layne refers to as a "messy, magical creative adventure." She explains, "The deck is designed to help you intuitively navigate life's wild twists and turns. But instead of providing a symbolic 'reading' through an interpretation of the cards, The Messy Magical Muse encourages you to find your own answers to life's questions through your own expressive art-making."

The launch of the card deck represents an exciting moment in Layne's own 'messy, magical, creative adventure' that brought her from San Francisco to Amsterdam for love in 2014. “When I finally landed in Staatsliedenbuurt, I discovered a weird, slightly wacky, and wildly creative community that made me feel at home. Over the years, through spontaneous workshops held at Cafe de Pianist and in my home, what started as a way to meet people and make friends eventually evolved into a creative wellness practice I call 'Kissing the Muse' — and this card deck. Now, I'd like to contribute to the community that welcomed me here by launching the deck where it was created — with the friends who helped make it happen."
Known as a “squatters' stronghold” in the 1980s, Staatsliedenbuurt's expressive free spirit persists today. The festival will celebrate this eclectic and artistic community while also serving as a fundraiser and open house for the Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen.

Founded in 1985 and rooted in the ideals of the squatting movement, Buurtwerkplaatsen remains an affordable, authentic space where adults from all backgrounds can come together to learn and explore creative, technical, and artistic craft.

What to Expect: An afternoon of creative inspiration, connection, food, drinks, and fun!
• Pop-Up Art Market & Exhibition: Explore works by neighborhood artists and makers in a pop-up art market/exhibition (10% of all sales will go to support the foundation).
• Games & Prizes: Participate in an interactive creative adventure/scavenger hunt (with prizes!)
• Open Workshops/Demos: Get inspired by live workshop demonstrations from 14:00 to 16:00 (painting/mixed-media, ceramics, glass & glass fusing, jewelry, screenprinting, woodworking, and metalwork)
• Food & Drink: Indulge in delicious snacks and drinks prepared by neighborhood foodies and friends (for purchase)
• And More! Music, spoken word performances, art installations, and video projections
This free-to-enter event is open to the public. You can drop by anytime between 14:00 and 18:00. RSVPs are appreciated.

Het Messy Magical Muse Festival of Creativity vindt plaats op 12 oktober 2024 van 14:00 tot 18:00 bij Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen in de Staatsliedenbuurt, Amsterdam. Georganiseerd door Kissing the Muse Creative Adventures in samenwerking met de Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen en vrienden, biedt dit vrij-toegankelijke buurtsevenement ondermeer live demonstraties van verchillende workshops, een pop-up kunstmarkt en tentoonstelling, en contact met lokale kunstenaars en makers, buurtbewoners en vrienden. Warwacht een middag vol creatieve inspiratie, verbinding, eten, drinken en plezier.
Dit evenement markeert de lancering van het “Messy Magical Muse” kaartendek, gemaakt door Robbyn Layne, oprichtster van Kissing the Muse Creative Adventures. Geïnspireerd door de cyclische, archetypische reis van verandering, wat Layne beschrijft als een "rommelig, magisch creatief avontuur". Deze set kaarten is te vergelijken met tarot- of orakelkaarten, maar met een unieke draai: "Het is ontworpen om je te helpen intuïtief je eigen antwoorden te vinden, door middel van expressieve creatie", legt Layne uit.
De lancering van het kaartendeck is een grote stap in Layne's eigen ‘rommelige, magische, creatieve avontuur’. Voor dit avontuur bracht de liefde haar al 10 jaar geleden van San Francisco naar Amsterdam.
“Toen ik uiteindelijk in de Staatsliedenbuurt terechtkwam, ontdekte ik een eigenzinnige, licht excentrieke en intens creatieve gemeenschap waarin ik mij onmiddelijk thuis voelde. Nu vier ik mijn eigen creatieve prestatie met deze gemeenschap door het kaartendeck te presenteren op de plek die het inspireerde — met de vrienden die er een deel in hadden."
In de Staatsliedenbuurt leeft de expressieve vrije geest ook 40 jaar na zijn dagen als ‘krakers bolwerk’ nog steeds voort. Een goed voorbeeld hiervan is Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen welke werd opgericht in 1985 en geworteld is in de idealen van de kraakbeweging. Deze stichting biedt een eigenzinnige, authentieke plek waar volwassenen van alle achtergronden samen kunnen komen om creatieve, technische en artistieke vaardigheden te leren en te verkennen. Tijdens het festival hebben bezoeker de mogelijkheid om via een ‘open dag’ met de activiteiten van Stichting Buurtwerkplaatsen kennis te maken en deze via een inzamelings actie te ondersteunen.

• Pop-up Kunstmarkt & Tentoonstelling: Ontdek werken van lokale en buurtkunstenaars in een pop-up kunstmarkt/tentoonstelling (10% van de opbrengsten zijn voor de stichting).• Spelletjes & Prijzen: Doe mee aan een interactieve creatieve avonturentocht/speurtocht (met prijzen!)
• Open Workshops/Demonstraties: Laat je inspireren door live demonstraties van workshops van 14:00 tot 16:00 (schilderen/mixed-media, keramiek, glas & glasfusie, sieraden, zeefdrukken, houtbewerking, en metaalbewerking).
• Eten & Drinken: Bestel en geniet van heerlijke snacks en drankjes, bereid door buurtkoks en vrienden.
• En meer! Muziek, ‘spoken word’ optredens, kunstinstallaties, en videoprojecties.
Dit gratis toegankelijke evenement is open voor het publiek. Je kunt op elk moment binnenlopen tussen 14:00 en 18:00. Aanmeldingen worden op prijs gesteld.
